A registered professional engineer in Colorado, Florida, Iowa and Minnesota, Jim brings over 10 years of experience in the fields of structural, civil and investigative engineering. As a Structural Engineer for Crane Engineering, he provides forensic expertise for investigations of structural conditions associated with material failures, design flaws and insurance claims. In addition to practicing as a Professional Engineer, Mr. Panko has taken his licensure to the highest level by successfully completing the 16-hour NCEES Structural Engineering Exam. The 16-Hour SE Exam covers a full range of knowledge testing one’s ability to analyze complex structural problems while applying the appropriate codes. His completion of the 16-Hour NCEES Structural Engineers Exam demonstrates his depth of knowledge in structural analysis, lateral design in high wind and seismic regions, and ability to interpret computer generated outputs.

Part of Crane Engineering’s DART (Difficult Access Response Team), Jim is able to apply his expertise using in Ropes Access techniques and work in Confined Spaces, giving clients the ability to have inspections performed in nearly any location.

Prior to his position at Crane Engineering, Jim was head of the Structural Engineering Department of Paulsen Architects where he led their Forensic and Investigative Engineering division and is an expert in standardized forensic methodology for analysis, documentation, testing and reporting.

In 2011 Jim was named by the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Minnesota Section as the Young Engineer of the Year. He is a member of the Minnesota State University, Mankato’s Civil Engineering Advisory Board, a member of the Board of Directors for Junior Achievement in Mankato and has served as the President for the Traverse de Sioux Section of Minnesota Society of Professional Engineers and as a former Practitioner Advisor for the American Society of Civil Engineers.

He is currently a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), Minnesota Society of Professional Engineers (MSPE), National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE) and the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA).

He received a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Minnesota State University, Mankato.
