Hernán Mercado-Corujo, P.E., CFEI, CVFI
Hernán Mercado-Corujo is an accomplished, licensed professional engineer with over 15 years of experience in engineering practice, particularly research and development in the automotive industry. He provides clients with expert consultation regarding complete vehicle reliability, motor vehicle and component testing, product evaluation and validation, as well as simulation-test correlation. He performs mechanical investigations on transportation vehicles, including passenger vehicles, light trucks, SUVs, motorcycles, scooters, snowmobiles and agricultural equipment, among others. Hernán has experience performing origin and cause investigations of fires, focusing on motor vehicles, agricultural, and transportation equipment. His extensive experience with hands-on testing and numerical methods (FEA, MBS), with in-depth knowledge of strength, durability, fatigue, and overall vehicle reliability, provide him with a strong base for root/cause failure analysis and investigations of individual components, engines, transmissions, chassis, and other vehicle systems.
Before joining Crane Engineering, Hernán was a Senior Engineer and Project Leader at Honda R&D Americas, Inc. At Honda he applied his knowledge of vehicle research and development to assessing the strength and durability of chassis and body systems, including hands-on testing, finite element analysis, and multi-body dynamics simulations.
Prior to Honda R&D, Hernán was employed as a Product Engineer with Eaton Corporation, where he performed testing and numerical simulations of powertrain components and air management systems, among others. Hernán has a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from MIT and a M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Georgia Tech. He has several publications and is a seasoned presenter at various automotive conferences.
He is a member of the SAE, ASME, NAFI, NFPA, and a registered Professional Engineer in Ohio, Puerto Rico, Wisconsin and Minnesota. He is bilingual in English and Spanish.
