Richard W. Johnson, P.E., a practicing structural engineer, recently joined Crane Engineering Building Science to bring over 20 years of experience in structural design and materials performance analysis to the company’s growing staff of professional architects and forensic engineers.
Rick has extensive experience as Engineer-of-Record for projects from all sectors of the built environment, including commercial, institutional, industrial, and residential markets. He is proficient at performing structural design and detailing with a wide variety of materials including concrete, steel, wood, masonry, aluminum, and cold formed steel.
Mr. Johnson will work directly with Crane Engineering Building Science clients to investigate structural conditions associated with material failures and design flaws in support of litigation and insurance claims. Rick can provide assessments and evaluations of physical conditions that result from structural or planning decisions. These include code compliance evaluations for structures and environments, field assessments of structures, environments and construction contract performance issues. Rick has served as an expert witness, providing professional opinions in litigation.

Rick Johnson earned a Bachelors of Science in Civil Engineering at the Northwestern University, Evanston, Illinois and a Master of Science, Engineering, at the University of California at Berkeley, California. He is professionally affiliated with the American Society of Civil Engineers, the Coalition of American Structural Engineers and the American Concrete Institute.
