Foreign Material Identification Services

Foreign Material IdentificationNo manufacturing process is infallible. With the quantities of parts and materials being made by today’s manufacturers, it is common for a small number to be returned by customers or rejected by quality control inspection. One recurring cause for the rejection of such parts is the presence of a foreign material.

Crane Engineering’s Laboratory Services Group uses state-of-the-art equipment in the detection and identification of foreign materials, both on manufactured parts and from other sources. This includes residue in or on tubing, molding impurities in plastic parts, and accumulated debris collected by filter  or trap systems in flow modules. In addition, field failures of devices or parts often are due to the accumulation of an unknown debris or residue. In all of these cases, determining the identity of a foreign material would go a long way in determining the cause of a problem and give information to help prevent future occurrences.
