Alan Winterfeldt is a practicing building science specialist with a background in civil engineering and more than 25 years of expertise in building construction and materials. He provides consultation on all manner of building envelope issues and works closely with clients to provide pre-construction reviews, investigate and resolve building construction-related problems, evaluate building envelope damage resulting from weather related and explosion events.

The building science investigations may include hail and wind damage, water intrusion, air leakage/infiltration, condensation issues, or other performance issues regarding exterior walls, roofs, and below grade waterproofing systems.

Prior to joining Crane Engineering Building Science, Alan served as a quality assurance consultant for building renovation projects and, earlier, as quality assurance director for a large national commercial real estate developer. For many years, Alan worked for a national engineering/architectural firm that specializes in building envelope consultation; his most recent role there was senior project manager.

Alan is a licensed professional engineer and earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Minnesota. He is certified in Construction Quality Management for Contractors through the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and completed numerous technical seminars on exterior envelope-related topics.

A recipient of an ASTM International Distinguished Service Award, Alan serves on that organization’s subcommittees dedicated to building preservation and rehabilitation, and exterior walls.
