About Crane Engineering

Rick Johnson is a licensed professional engineer who brings more than 20 years of industry experience to his work at Crane Engineering Building Science. He provides forensic expertise for investigations of structural conditions associated with material failures, design flaws and insurance claims.

Rick has served as Engineer of Record for a wide variety of commercial, institutional, industrial and residential projects since 1993. Earlier in his career, he also held engineering manager and project engineer positions. His work included structural design and detailing for new construction and existing buildings in multiple market sectors.

He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering-Structural from Northwestern University and a Master of Science Degree in Civil Engineering-Structural from the University of California, Berkeley. He has continued his studies with extensive coursework on building materials, design and technologies.

Rick is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, Coalition of American Structural Engineers and American Concrete Institute.
