About Crane Engineering

David Hallman has a unique 20-year background encompassing both professional engineering expertise and hands-on mechanical experience. At Crane Engineering, he is responsible for conducting a wide range of failure investigations involving materials/metallurgical and mechanical systems but particularly cases involving vehicles, vehicle fires and propulsion systems.

Prior to joining the firm, Dave was a senior mechanical structural design engineer for a global defense, security and aerospace company. His earlier engineering work also included serving as lead mechanical engineer for a designer and manufacturer of testing and sensing equipment. Dave spent the first ten years of his career as an automotive technician, performing all types of repair.

A co-author of technical papers on nano-scale mechanical properties, Dave also co-holds a patent for an improved roadway simulator. He has a bachelor of science in mechanical engineering from the University of St. Thomas and a master of science in materials science and engineering from the University of Minnesota.

Dave is a member of SAE International, the National Association of Fire Investigators (NAFI), the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), and the Accident Reconstruction Network (ARC).
