About Crane Engineering

Alan Winterfeldt is a practicing building science specialist with a background in civil engineering and more than 25 years of expertise in building construction and materials. He provides consultation on all manner of building envelope issues and works closely with clients to investigate and resolve building construction-related problems.

Prior to joining Crane Engineering Building Science, Alan served as a quality assurance consultant for building renovation projects and, earlier, as quality assurance director for a large national commercial real estate developer. For many years, Alan worked for a national engineering/architectural firm that specializes in building envelope consultation; his most recent role there was senior project manager.

Alan earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Minnesota. He is certified in Construction Quality Management for Contractors through the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and completed numerous technical seminars on exterior envelope-related topics.

A recipient of an ASTM International Distinguished Service Award, Alan serves on that organization’s subcommittees dedicated to building preservation and rehabilitation, and exterior walls.
