Thomas G. Gardner, Ph.D.
Senior Chemist
Thomas Gardner is an accomplished scientist with more than 20 years of professional experience. At Crane Engineering, he is responsible for analytical chemistry, including characterizing materials, detecting trace contaminants, developing analytical methods and conducting materials failure studies. He is also an experienced synthesis chemist, and is able to advise on matters of organic, inorganic and materials R&D chemistry.
Tom holds a doctorate from the University of Illinois in inorganic chemistry and did post-doctoral work in catalyst chemistry. Before joining the firm’s in-house laboratory, he was a lead scientist in the materials characterization division of a leading medical technology company. Prior to that, he was a chemistry professor for 12 years.
A frequent presenter at chemistry conferences, he lectures on computational chemistry at colleges nationwide. He has authored books on chemistry-related topics, submitted numerous patent applications, and was a columnist and editor for the journal The Chemical Educator. Tom is a member of the American Chemical Society, the Materials Research Society, the Minnesota Microscopy Society and other associations.
